Executive Functioning Training

Executive functioning is a set of mental skills that include working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control. We use these skills every day to learn, work, and manage daily life.

Students who have trouble with executive functioning can find it difficult to focus, follow directions, complete tasks, handle emotions, problem solve, and control impulses, among other things.

Early interventions are key when a child demonstrates slow development of executive functioning skills. Interventions support the learning processes.

In addition to those who have ADHD, executive functioning skills can be compromised if one has the following:

  • Specific learning disabilities
  • Working memory impairments
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Cognitive abilities
  • Slow processing
  • Behavioral issues
  • Emotional difficulties
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Genetics
  • Born with weak executive functioning
